I'm sure before coming to Gili Trawangan you have seen pictures on Instagram of people posing perfectly for a sunset memory picture alone or with their beloved one on a swing set which appears to be in the middle of the ocean. It is one of the biggest attractions of the island and under Hashtag #gilitrawangan almost every 5th picture is someone swinging into the sunset.

The almost immideate reaction is: I want to get a picture taken there too. So where can I find the swing?
As of March 2016 there are now 5 swings around Gili T, all located around the shallow waters on the west side of the island between the sunset bars The Exile and Le Pirate Beach Club.
The first and most famous though belongs to the Hotel Ombak Sunset. It was build in 2014 and, since then, attracted thousands of people who are mostly coming during the sunset hours to chill out and get their photo taken. In high season you can even observe a long queue because it is so famous.

My favourite time to come is during the day though. 2 reasons for that: First, it is a lot more quiet and you can really take your time to get the perfect picture taken. Especially when the weather is nice, you can take awesome shots which brings us to number 2: In the morning until noon time the light is the best because the sun is on the photographers back which means you can actually see your face on the picture and the reef shows it beautiful blue shades.
On the contrary, taken pictures during sunset means that you will mostly just see a black silhouette of yourself which can be very nice too.
So, it's up to you. Whenever you choose to come, you will make some unforgettable holiday memories.

The sunsets on Gili T are very unique and often spectacular because you will see the sun set behind or next to Bali's volcanoes (depending on the time of the year). Just walk or ride to the other side (west coast) of the island and enjoy the view. The sun sets usually between 6pm and 6:30pm so the best time to leave from your hotel is around 5pm by bike or 4:30pm if you walk.

Stunning views on the Bali volcanoes

My favourite sunsets Bars are Serene Sunset for delicious cheap cocktails and Casa Vintage Beach for an amazing dinner, My recommendations are: Caribbean Beef Chili, Potatoe Pie or Falafel with Hummus. So so good!
The two Bars are right next to each other so you can enjoy the best of both worlds!

They are both lovely and very tastefully decorated. Casa Vitage even has a shop of new and vintage clothings so while the boys enjoy an ice cold bintang, the girls can go shopping.
